Ciao Mel, People I met during my stay in Florence was usually very very nice (landlord, teachers, flatmates, bartenders, etc..) .
Of course Florence is a real city (not only a postcard town) so you can meet during the night many immigrants (there are in Florence a lot of Albanians, Moroccans, Romanians..) that may create some problems (but we are French and we know very well how to manage these situations!).
In general the city is welcoming, even the Florentines are not very famous in Italy for being very warm!!!
In any case I'm sure you'll enjoy the city and the beautiful atmosphere yuo can breath there..
Don't miss Forte Belvedere, Boboli Garden, Accademia and Uffizi Museum, the city Dome (go on the top!), Sesame Bar, Aperitif at Sant'Ambrogio or in Piazza Beccaria (Kitch bar)....

Ciao Leena, the problems wth the immigrants are linked to the fact that most of them have no their families here, so they are often in search for easy *** during the night and if they meet a drunk foreign girls they can also harasse her/them..
So, girls if you are drunk in the night never stay alone in the city center and, anyway, never exagerate with drunkness!
These are of course recommendations valid in every country,in France,England, Spain.... but often foreigners think that Florence being a so touristic and beautiful town is almost a disneyland with no dangers...no,Florence is also a real city with its problems of traffic, immigrations, violence, smog, transportations, etc.,etc...
So, take care of yourself and enjoy your experience in Florence!!

Hi,
Just watch out for the immigrants who will pose as italians, or whatnot. They will try to harass girls and you just need to be careful bc my friend got chased by one of them one night as she was walking home later (around 2-3am), and also I had an albanian who stalked me until I got very serious with him and told him I would get the cops involved.
Some lurk around to find a drunk girl, and take advantage...so just be careful.

Hi girls!I agree about what you are writing.
Pay attention to travel in the centre of the city after 2-3 am because some albanian, romaniian and north africans immigrants stalk girl. Especially albanian are violent: a my female french friend exited with albanians and i was a by worried for her. After she understood they wanted only *** and she finished to exit with her. I am a boy and also I have to pay attention to these people (for robbery, obviously not stalking!)
And don't drink too too too too too much because there could be boys that takes advantage of you (in Florence like in other parts of the world)
Florentines are apparently not very warm, but once you know better he won't detached! We are not so worm like the inhabitants of souther italy, we are warier (and this is a difect). I could be a souther italian so, girls!

i have been here for a couple of months and so far... no italian boys.... and... im tired of americans, albanians, romanians, moroccons, etc...stoking in the street.....where are the decent men? like french men or italians!!!! LOL....because so far... NOTHING!! .....
